SDoH: They Made Me Sick
I am a woman fighting epilepsy asking for a little help and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) had intervened in various ways over the years. SDoH: Social Determinants of Health, are the non-medical conditions where people live, work, learn, and age that significantly impact their health outcomes and quality of life, including factors like income, education, neighborhood safety, food access, and social support, influencing overall well-being more than medical care alone. How thick is your armor? Does epilepsy make or break you?
This can easily be misunderstood as you are nothing more than your epilepsy. On the contrary, my message is what did my experiences with epilepsy bring out of me; with each battle my armor thickened. I speak up comfortably about my experiences with the condition disclosure is not my fear. For others the battles may have gone a different way. Some warriors might have less resilience and each episode really takes a toll. Overtime the accumulated toll catches up leaving a warrio

Epilepsy Lingo & Not So Clear Communication
Depending on who you're speaking to in regards to epilepsy different phrases in terms are brought into the conversation. When the established medic has modified professional labels and definitions, it makes epilepsy sound very complicated to someone new to epilepsy. Epilepsy Foundation New England Community Health Worker: Have I found my calling?
By calling I am referring to an individual's naturally embedded journey; others may call destiny or fate. I am overflowing with the determination to be self sufficient and not let epilepsy get the better of me. Rather than exhaust myself on life's revolving door any longer I reflected on what I have to give. A helping hand and willingness to share my experiences with others in hopes to answer any epilepsy related questions whether asked or unasked. Awareness is more than nee

Epilepsy provides enough...
Petty nonsense is not worth putting yourself in harm's way. Epilepsy provides plenty of ware and tare for the mind and body on it's own. The recovery process is not guaranteed success nor is it instant. So additional drama isn't anyone's best interest and surely not welcome in this warrior's world. Understand, I'm not afraid by any means, the foolishness just isn't worth the potential seizure and aftermath. After a not so fun day full of the myoclonic jerking and auras I'll

Epilepsy and the psychology to it
Since emotions are such a factor in epilepsy, in my teens I wanted to learn more about the mind. How does it work, and what's different about mine. From personal experiences I know haywire emotions are a cluster of seizures in the making. I have had counseling and learned how getting the negatives out in a healthy way can make quite the difference. So I decided helping children with mental health problems was my goal. I pursued a degree in clinical psychology but I haven't co

Gotta embrace it and spread the word. There's a great need for epilepsy awareness even during COVID.
