For a good 2 years I lived in a city of Woonsocket Rhode Island; now as far as any city or state in the United States, there's something called code enforcement. All properties are supposed to be kept in a standard manner.
Then you have the landlords like my previous landlord that I recently had to leave the property, that doesn't like to get the repairs properly, instead do it yourself over and over and over incorrectly. Isn't the definition of insanity during the same thing repeatedly and expecting something different each time?
My requests seemed to get disregarded, coming from a trained certified Community Health worker's perspective. Americorps alumni with CDC training in public health's perspective I'm doing what I am supposed to help the people in need get the proper resources such as a stable home and I know firsthand I can relate to them because my home I was fighting for repairs for years.
Now I'm told to be quiet and not make any false derogatory statements. "Last Notice" Rhode Island is labeled landlord friendly and kept everything in a Merry-Go-Round. All of what I say it true, validated by email messages, and photos/video evidence I have saved. For this very reason: I don't cry wolf.
Preying on the poor make people hesitant to report but advocacy is my calling, growing up with epilepsy requires a lot of self advocating. I'm a natural so why not advocate for affordable housing vs getting a new carwash? Rather than getting a repair from the landlord I'd be told "she's old and hard to deal with" "she has history of doing bare minimum." "It's that bad just leave"
This purple warrior is quite a whistle blower who simply asks for what's right. How dare I challenge any authority? There may be some truth to be found. There's a current landlord rakttering RICO case here in Rhode Island. Sad to say but it's so widespread currently, not only in Providence. It's fuel to the fire, my drive to fight for the greater good.
