Time to tell the truth!
For a good 2 years I lived in a city of Woonsocket Rhode Island; now as far as any city or state in the United States, there's something called code enforcement. All properties are supposed to be kept in a standard manner. Then you have the landlords like my previous landlord that I recently had to leave the property, that doesn't like to get the repairs properly, instead do it yourself over and over and over incorrectly. Isn't the definition of insanity during the same thing

SDoH: They Made Me Sick
I am a woman fighting epilepsy asking for a little help and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) had intervened in various ways over the years. SDoH: Social Determinants of Health, are the non-medical conditions where people live, work, learn, and age that significantly impact their health outcomes and quality of life, including factors like income, education, neighborhood safety, food access, and social support, influencing overall well-being more than medical care alone. Stigmas leading to underestimating
I'm throwing my all into this trying, trying, trying, just to be recognized. No acknowledgement you did a good job Sarina, even though you are simultaneously fighting epilepsy and did not let it win. Instead of people view it as regardless of your background credentials and all you have seizures controlled or not you have seizures. Some people's misunderstanding of seizures, they assume because they are having episodes the person is not up to par or worthy of such a position

Unaddressed injustices: Legal services, does the free help actually help?
As with almost anything, the all mighty dollar weasels it's way in. The people on the receiving end of the unfair housing and evictions are caught in a bind, we all deserve a better quality of life but can only live in such conditions as would peasants. God forbid you ask for repairs and/or general maintenance, they can't wait to push you out in order to save that extra buck. With security landlords having that upper hand and can get better lawyers rather than public service

Unaddressed injustices: Housing Landlord Friendly
More often than not, at least in Rhode Island, the system per se is abusing people in need. There are laid laws, but the landlord doesn't get the correct deserved consequences for their wrongdoings. They have the upper hand. It's a state described as "Landlord Friendly" This is a widespread problem and Rhode Island is one of many states that allow this. Of course there is homelessness here, there, and everywhere. The "landlord friendly" meaning: No or limited rent control: L

That it is but you have to consider where it truly begins. The encampments wouldn't even exist if half those people were housed and the reason that they aren't is because when rent is ridiculous; landlords that do not maintain thei

Unaddressed injustices: Housing PT 3
It is very hard to stay calm cool and collect when you obviously see something is wrong, request aid, just to be told all is well. In that very scenario I live daily. There's clear violations, there are also clear pictures. 😉 Imagine this situation because it has driven me to be a stronger warrior. I may have some auras from the stress, but this purple warrior is not giving up. 💜 Although it has taken a lot out of me, all the advocacy skills I learned in order to be a cert

Unaddressed injustices: Housing PT 2
There's plenty more to be said in regards to housing injustices, things are very unbalanced and unfair. You never know what happens behind closed doors... How kind is this message referring to a requested repair? Chief inspector's words The "violations", evidence acknowledged, written and signed by the very same person that holds the list of issues that aren't close to being completely tended to. Not only is the known leak acknowledged but I am actually getting accused of wai

I think it's time to make some ruckus... Unaddressed injustices Housing PT 1
Housing injustices Now just imagine a property owner that does not maintain their multiple rental properties through the city, no cap on rent, simple repairs requested and sloppy DIY... One solution would be escrow with the courts and request an inspection. Oh boy did my fighting spirit get a rush. Everything followed by the book until... property owner wasn't too keen on escrow. -Note: escrow was legitimate court order based on my legitimate code complaints So I figured just

Whistleblower isn't always the bad guy.
I've been the one to raise my hand to speak filled with hesitation and second guess myself for years. An obstacle that took some time to surpass, but I did it. People, I'm dealing with are men that have been given any type of title or authority, and it seemingly goes to their heads. As a result they feel superior and see me as less than. I don't see that as right, law doesn't see that as right, but in City Hall perspective, it's "Hey whatever, it's all right we like being on

I sport my armor 💜
I had a mega 180 in life, sweet and quiet nerd that follows rules like no tomorrow to a persistent advocate for applicable injustices all in which I can speak on because of experience lived. I may only be 36 but it has not been easy and it definitely isn't easy with epilepsy. I say I'm a purple warrior rocking my armor because you have to be very strong and to have a chronic illness; many are recognized and acknowledged well known to general public and the other conditions ge
