Anyone, warrior or not, can benefit from having a go-to person. In case of emergency who do you turn to? Although I am an adult, epilepsy is a seizure disorder that can make me hesitant to go out much, when in that mental state anything can happen. In my younger years my dad was my comfort person, a good morning text and call was helpful. Now what I am grateful for is finding a significant other that provides the love and support that I need. Not everyone finds that connection. Rather then rejection of any sort, Richard has been by my side for the last decade on my battle. Before he passed, may he rest in peace, my father said he was happy with who he leaves his daughter with. Many occasions my family witnessed seizures and haven't the slightest idea what is going on, the epilepsy had changed so much over the years. On the contrary Richard just asked what to do when one happens. Nowadays we have a system if I'm not feeling 100%, even if just a little bit off, I make sure to tell him and if something comes up he would be able to help quickly. When apart we check in. To some it might seem like too much, but it's helpful to my anxiety also. I once had a complex partial seizure while on public transportation, and ended up on the wrong bus. Thank heavens that Rhode Island is a little peanut size for a state. I was at first panic mode, but I called him felt at ease, and got home safely. Whoever it might be, friend, family, or significant other, a go-to person is always a great resource.
