It's very frustrating spending 18 months working hard to get something to make you a Certified Community Health worker (vs. CHW) and get CDC Public Health training just for the response to applications and involvement resulting in no because,
Cannot drive : epilepsy
No bachelors degree: epilepsy
Not bilingual
I can only cram so much in my static filled brain; CCHW training was a breeze for me because I have either been through the same situation, and/or helped another person in a predicament. Completing college and mastering a second language didn't work for me.
This frustrates me to wit's end because everyone says they're open no biases to hiring disabilities, language, race, etc. and then bang bang bang no Sarina, sorry we can't hire you. Valid current certificates, valid references, and serving Americorps is something that shows character; then there's that... "and? so what?" Vibe from many.
So I, as a frustrated Certified Community Health Worker that has epilepsy, have to double down and be a resilient purple warrior in this next obstacle.
