Gaslighting: Don't be a puppet...

Gaslighting: A manipulative control tactic, psychologically misleading a person to doubt the truth and/or sanity.

Gaslighting comes from many people in various ways. Warrior or not, it is a hard barrier to break. My primary, not to mention most common type, gaslighters are parents and neurologist. I recognized the frequency of the behavior once I read more about it. Have you ever been told or coaxed to believe other than what you KNOW to be TRUE?

Doctor patient relationship often results with friction; my recent appointment definitely did...a furious warrior made an appearance.

Background: I'm currently "disabled" with student loans accumulated from trying to achieve eagerly goals I dreamt of. Much harder than you'd think when you do not have control of the misfiring neurons. I've been trying to work and EVERYTIME a seizure changed the direction. I asked my neurologist to help me with the relief.

Main types:

  1. Straight out lies are used to hide a secret.

  2. Reality manipulation is meant to minimize the dilemma currently on the table. Make one feel it's in their head, second guess themselves. Invalidating one's emotions takes place.

  3. Scapegoating shifts blame onto a person for other's faults and wrongdoings.

  4. Coercion used for control by threatening and or force. That is used common for discipline from parents.

Having been a hard fighting warrior for a couple decades now, I recognize my symptoms and seizures. I'm not going to let the doctor manipulate me to think I'm not doing my part. I simply ask, "if you think I'm capable of gainful living, what field would you recommend?" Here is where inner warrior burst. Neurologist dancing around with no straight answer. I said I tried all in which he suggested (remote, part-time, freelance) suddenly he denied have given suggestions and that he can't really decide if I'm totally disabled. Hard of hearing suddenly when I say give me another doctor. In the frustration I'm fully shaking and needed to swipe my VNS. I didn't even feel like hearing the nonsense from a man that read the book vs. feel the pain. Don't blame me for your incapability of figuring my best interest in getting a grip on it.

Not everyone may know the story of Pinocchio, he is a marionette puppet made by a carpenter, Geppeto, who wants a son. "I'm a real boy!" is what he wants others to see. So I have just have one thing to say to the wannabe Geppeto's out there..."Im a real warrior!" 💜
