Listening vs. Hearing

Really surprised who is listening not just hearing. There's a difference between the two. Did the audience listen and understand the given message? Or on the contrary, did your audience hear some words in one ear and out of the other, all the while nothing's actually being retained?

Attending an event about Health Equity Zones (HEZ) some topics hit home so as the panel asked if the audience had any questions, I of course spoke. This was speaking on a personal experience and CCHW perspective. If a person is on disability a fixed income, housing is the way it is, S.D.O.H, and living in the revolving door we call life, nowadays a person can really be in a bind.

It's satisfying when someone from the panel wanted to hug me and say that it was great I shared my story and it has legitimate issues that need to be shared with the legislature. What I have to say has value. A doctor's opinion is going to be assumed to be valid just from hearing Doctors vs. CCHW's. People still sometimes scratch their head, what's a CCHW? I'm a person in a bind as well as the person who's role is to advocate. That's where I am, both sides of the fence.

There are resources to help those in need, access and basic awareness lacks which has a domino effect. What good is a resource that no one knows about or how to get it? So my message was listened to, directly reflected on, and no loose words that might be wrongly heard.
