Triggers: You're getting on my nerves

Updated: Feb 18, 2024

This is a phrase thrown around quite often by general public in the times of frustration. For a deployed purple warrior it's something very literal. Something we refer to as a "trigger" is the reason of the electrical misfires also known as a seizure.

Not every warrior knows their own triggers because there's there's so many and they vary personally. The most common trigger is stress. Stress is the result of excessive demand on the mind. The emotions that come with the demand can set off the seizure.

Multitasking, limitations and the different anxiety types can frustrate a warrior where the best way to sum things up is asking oneself what might have triggered the recent episode? What were you doing beforehand that might have set It off? Something apparently "got on their nerves" causing the brain to misfire.

Sudden uncontrolled electric activity burst in the brain are the seizures and although you may miss one or two when taking note, it's always recommended best to record what you were doing prior to see if there's a pattern; what that pattern will indicate is what are likely triggers your seizures. Once you learn your triggers you can figure out how to manage by taking the proper precautions and reduce the chance of anything being provoked. With the current technology of world we live in, there's an app called Epsy to help keep record of things and perhaps find triggers for you personally.
